About Us
About the Registry
The United States Attorney Registry maintains the official national roll of attorneys admitted to the practice of law. Every attorney duly admitted and enrolled is issued a unique Attorney Registration Number, which remains the authoritative reference for that attorney’s standing on the register.
Members of the public, employers, courts, and institutions may use this portal to confirm that an individual presenting themselves as an attorney is duly registered, and to view the particulars of their admission, their firm, and their current registration status. Where a photograph is held on file, it is displayed with the record to guard against impersonation.
Our Mandate
What the Registry Does
Maintain the National Roll
We keep the authoritative record of every attorney’s admission, registration particulars, and disciplinary standing across all participating state bars.
Protect the Public
Free, immediate verification helps the public confirm that a legal practitioner is licensed and in good standing before entering into any engagement.
Promote Transparency
Registration statuses — including suspension, inactivity, and disbarment — are published openly so the legal community operates with full transparency.
Reference
Registration Statuses
Every record on the register carries one of four statuses, shown clearly on the verification result:
-
Active
The attorney is licensed, in good standing, and entitled to practise law.
-
Suspended
The attorney is temporarily prohibited from practising pending disciplinary or administrative proceedings.
-
Inactive
The registration has lapsed. The attorney must seek reinstatement before resuming practice.
-
Disbarred
The attorney has been removed from the roll and is prohibited from practising law in any capacity.
